Late yesterday afternoon Steve Jobs stepped down as CEO of the most influentle tech company of our time, Apple. In a press release Jobs was quoted as saying to the board of directors…
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.
I hereby resign as CEO of Apple. I would like to serve, if the Board sees fit, as Chairman of the Board, director and Apple employee.
As far as my successor goes, I strongly recommend that we execute our succession plan and name Tim Cook as CEO of Apple.
I believe Apple’s brightest and most innovative days are ahead of it. And I look forward to watching and contributing to its success in a new role.
I have made some of the best friends of my life at Apple, and I thank you all for the many years of being able to work alongside you.”
Steve Jobs is noted as co-creator of Apple along side Steve “The Woz” Wozniak in the late 70’s. One can’t help but wonder what this could mean for the end user. Will Tim Cook loosen the purse strings on Apple hardware and software? Will we see them support the user the way they did after Jobs was fired, the same time we got the neon colored iMacs? Will Apple finally give up its fight against the jailbreak community and embrace the idea of the user customizing their iDevice as they see fight and often improving the software or hardware? No one knows, but one can only hope so. Many jailbreak tweaks and software has become part of Apple’s iOS like wifi sync and it can be argued that Cydia helped bring about Apple’s AppStore. Only time will tell! I would like to bid Steve Jobs a found farewell as CEO, one worthy of the series finally of many of tv’s greatest shows!
